KFC announced on Monday that it would be testing two new menu items made with plant-based Beyond Fried Chicken at one of its Atlanta locations on August 27, making it the first national fast-food chain to add plant-based fried chicken to its menu.
The chicken chain’s new Beyond Meat menu items include a vegan version of their popular Chicken Nuggets and a faux-chicken version of their delicious Boneless Wings tossed in your choice of Honey BBQ, Buffalo, or Nashville Hot sauce.
Beyond Fried Chicken Nuggets carry a suggested price of $1.99 for a 4-piece order, $6.49 for a 6-piece combo that includes a side and a medium drink, and $8.49 for a 12-piece combo meal which includes your choice of one side and a medium drink.
Beyond Meat Boneless Wings, on the other hand, carry a suggested price of just 6 bucks for a 6-piece order and $12 for a 12-piece order.
KFC’s Beyond Fried Chicken test in Atlanta went well, so much so it sold out its new Beyond Nuggets and Boneless Wings inventory in less than 5 hours. Kentucky Fried Chicken fans were lining up around the restaurant before it even opened at 8:00 a.m.
KFC will evaluate both results and customer feedback from the test in Atlanta to determine the best way forward. Whether the chain is planning a more extensive test or a national rollout is beyond me, but I couldn’t be more excited about the possibility of being able to order vegan fried chicken at Kentucky Fried Chicken.
What a great time to be alive!
